Charleston, WV (WOAY) – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced West Virginia’s plan to participate in an action to speed up the deportation of illegal immigrants, according to a press release.
West Virginia has signed a letter of intent to join the 287(g) program under President Donald Trump. By doing this it will allow West Virginia state correctional officers to transport criminal aliens into federal custody without the direct supervision of an ICE agent, speeding up the deportation process.
Governor Morrisey says: “West Virginia stands ready to carry out President Trump’s anti-illegal immigration agenda. Today’s actions will ensure that criminal aliens can be expeditiously deported from our country.”
This follows an executive order the Governor signed last week directing West Virginia law enforcement to fully cooperate with President Trump’s immigration agenda and perform the duties of immigration officers as necessary and as allowed by law. Morrisey also drafted a letter and sent it to local law enforcement officials instructing them to take every effort to support ICE and President Trump’s directives on illegal immigration.
