West Virginia (WOAY) Gas prices are climbing fast across West Virginia.
According to GasBuddy, the average price for a gallon of gas in the state has jumped nearly 40 cents in just the past week, now sitting at $4.30.
That’s more than 35 cents higher than a month ago and over a dollar higher than this time last year.
Drivers are seeing a wide range at the pump, with prices as low as $3.68 and as high as $5.19 statewide.
The trend isn’t just local.
The national average surged this week, climbing more than 38 cents to $4.42 per gallon.
Diesel prices are also on the rise, increasing by more than 21 cents nationwide.
Nearby areas are seeing similar spikes.
Pittsburgh is now averaging nearly $4.70, Charleston just over $4.30, and Virginia around $4.16 a gallon.
Analysts say refinery outages in the Great Lakes region are driving much of the increase, along with shifting global supply factors.
While there are early signs that prices could stabilize, experts warn that volatility is likely to continue in the weeks ahead.
