Gas well to be plugged in Gauley Bridge

The National Park Service will plug an orphaned gas well in the Gauley River National Recreation Area starting on September 18.

The work will take up to three weeks, and park visitors and residents should pay attention for extra traffic on Lucas Road near Koontz Bend.

The well will be plugged with cement, and only three feet of protruding pipe will be left behind. Native grasses will be planted at the site.
