Frosty Morning; Rain Returns Mother’s Day Evening

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): A Frost Advisory has been issued for Fayette, Greenbrier, McDowell, Monroe, Nicholas, southeast Pocahontas, Raleigh, Summers, and Wyoming counties until 8 AM this morning. A Freeze Warning is also in effect for northwestern Pocahontas county until 8 AM. While these alerts expire soon, cooler temperatures will last through most of the morning, slowly warming up. After the frosty morning, temperatures reach the mid-60s this afternoon and sunny skies stick around for the day.

Conditions will stay on the dry side tomorrow, but a sprinkle is possible Saturday morning and early afternoon. These showers are now trending to the north and are scattering even further, meaning we will likely receive little to no rain. Temperatures will inch closer to 70 degrees tomorrow, making for the most seasonable day in a little while. However, more active weather is coming up late this weekend and into next week. Here’s the latest from Meteorologist Christian Boteler:

Mother’s Day will start calmly, but showers and storms will show up later in the afternoon and evening. Brunch will be the best time for any outdoor plans, while dinner may be better suited for staying in. Showers and storms will last through the overnight hours and into Monday morning, but these will be lighter and broken up through the region. Temperatures will fall to begin the week, but won’t be a chilly as today. Rain will stop Monday afternoon, leaving the region to dry up for a day or so afterwards. While this round of rain will be beneficial, it will not be nearly enough to get us back on track. The rainfall deficit between March 1st and today is almost 5 inches, which is much more than we are expecting over the next week.

Tuesday will stay dry during the day, but more showers will show up during the overnight hours. The next low-pressure system will move through the region on Wednesday, bringing showers and thunderstorms along with it. This will be another shot of rain, but will likely not be enough to make a dent in the deficit. Still, we will take anything that keeps us from furthering the rainfall deficit even more. This system moves through Wednesday evening and leaves us with another dry day to end the extended forecast. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
