Fewer firearms intercepted at WV airports in 2024

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – The Transportation Security Administration released a report taking aim at the number of firearms intercepted at airports nationwide. According to the report the number of guns intercepted in 2024 went down compared to 2023, that decline matched the national trend.

In 2024, the TSA intercepted 10 firearms at airports in West Virginia, half of what they detected in 2023, according to statistics released from the agency.

In 2024 six firearms were found at West Virginia International Yeager Airport in Charleston, three at Huntington’s Tri-State Airport and one at the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional in Parkersburg according to the report.

Individuals who brought weapons through a TSA checkpoint were subject to federal civil penalties of up to $15,000 as well as criminal charges.
