Festival of the Rivers: Celebrating musical culture of three Appalachian rivers

SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Campbell-Flannagan-Murrell House Museum is gearing up for its annual August celebration — a confluence of the New, Bluestone, and Greenbrier Rivers.

The free Hinton event, Festival of the Rivers features grassroots Appalachian music honoring our rivers and railroad culture.

They say blues, roots, and traditional musicians will join the festivities to showcase the influence Appalachia has had on music.

“This year, Summers County High School band is going to lead off our show,” Board of Trustees President Carol Jackson said. “Then we’ve got some string players with The Gardeners and Chris Hopson on guitar, Acuoustic Fusion, and we’ll finish up with the Heavy Hitters, who have fantastic dance tunes for us.”

According to Jackson, the Festival of the Rivers captures the spirit of the river communities.

“Of course, it’s a big fundraiser for our museum,” said the board of trustees president. “We enjoy seeing all our neighbors and new people who come and meet them, and enjoy the music and the town.”
