OAK HILL, WV (WOAY)- The locally owned business El Rio’s in oak hill celebrates 30 years of business today.
The 30th celebrations start at 5 pm. To celebrate, they’re offering free meals that they don’t offer on their regular menu. The food they will be offering is meals they, as a family, typically make at home.
Those items will be tamales, pozole, and tostadas, on top of their regular menu items. They will also have free t-shirts and a live mariachi band playing. The music will play till about 9 pm tonight, but they will stay open till 10 pm.
They are doing this to say thank you to the community that they feel is a part of their family.
“Honestly this is kind of crazy because like 30 years longer than I’ve been alive, I’m 27. So really, it’s like my family’s been doing this for a lot longer than me, but that means a lot because obviously people like coming here and not just that. Like we’ve made a lot of friends and family over the time,” explained Jovanny Alverez, Manager at El Rio. “So, like we get along well with a lot of the customers that come here and we’re just really close to everybody. And like me growing up, especially working here now, like people are like, I remember when you were little run around the restaurant. So just like, you know, how time progresses and how long we’ve been here, it’s just like, just kind of mind-blowing stuff. Like, a lot of businesses sometimes don’t make it, especially for small businesses, but to just kind of be able to be here and celebrate 30 years is just a big accomplishment to us.”
