Dry, Monitoring Two Cold Fronts; High Confidence in Trends Through Early Nov.

The lack of rain ranks as the third driest October on record (so far) and two fronts will knock down the warm temperatures.

OCTOBER RECORDS: This is currently the third driest October in Beckley and fourth driest for Bluefield. This is the 26th driest October in Lewisburg (benefited from Helene rain on the first day of October).

FIRST COLD FRONT: A front with a wind shift will push through early Thursday and knock temperatures down closer to average on Thursday. NO rain will accompany the front.

SECOND COLD FRONT: The next cold front will push through early Saturday with less than 0.10″ rain and this front will knock down the temperatures Saturday and Sunday before temperatures rebound close to 70 degrees for Monday and Tuesday.

LONG-TERM OUTLOOK: A positive phase of the North Atlantic, Arctic and East Pacific Oscillation combined with a negative Pacific-North American Pattern will favor a very warm end to October (Halloween) and warm start to November. There is a risk for a more sustainable cold pattern between November 11-16.
