Dangerous heat this week

The heat is on as we find ourselves underneath a high-pressure center in the middle levels of the atmosphere. The result is the first hot stretch of weather for the area this year.
The last time that Beckley reached 90 degrees was on August 30th, 2024. We’ll likely spend three days in that lofty territory. Records for Beckley over the next few days are as follows…
06/23 (today) – 91 (set in 1931)
06/24 (Tuesday) – 90 (set in 1949)
06/25 (Wednesday) – 91 (set in 1914)
We’ll be near the record highs on all three of those days. And, of course, with the humidity it will feel even hotter. If you have to be outside, be sure to take precautions!
The only thing that could possibly make it feel a little cooler will be the chance for some afternoon storms. Any storms that pop up will only be over one place for a short amount of time and shouldn’t case any flooding concern. After they go away, temperatures will return to the 90s and the humidity levels go up, completing the summer-like feel to our weather – if we lived in Florida!
Later this week, the heat dome will begin to break down and the showers and storms will become more frequent. With the additional cloud cover, as well as the fact that we won’t be under the center of the high, temperatures will fall slightly but will still be above the normal.
