Cooler Temperatures; Rain Remains

It was a nice day across most of Southern West Virginia today, some thunderstorms have moved through some of us and we could expect more rain and thunderstorms throughout the majority of this week. The severe weather potential for Monday is low in our area as the Marginal Risk is just off to our east in parts of Virginia, however it’s not that far away. So, a strong storm or two is definitely possible Monday (mainly in the Greenbrier Valley).

The rain Tuesday could be a little more widespread, then become more hit or miss Wednesday and Thursday. Once we head into Friday and Saturday though, the chance of rain does appear a little more widespread, with the potential for thunderstorms existing yet again.

Overall, on the European model nearly 3 inches of rain is shown falling aross the Southern Coalfields. Widespread rain over an inch is likely with isolated pockets maybe hitting 2 inches or more isn’t completely out of the question. With this rainfall, the Southern Coalfields will also likely drop a drought category or become abnormally dry like the areas further north. This would also take much of our area completely out of the drought.

Looking at the full 7 day forecast, Tuesday and Friday appear to be the most likely days for rain, but the temperatures are definitely going to be a big story. After the heat dome we just got out of, temperatures will be steady and very nice in the upper 70’s to low 80’s region wide.
