Athens, WV (WOAY) Concord University’s athletic department plans to expand for the 2026 season.
Earlier this week, the school’s athletic department announced plans to add a women’s Triathlon team.
Now they announce the addition of women’s wrestling as the university’s 17th sports team.
The Board of Governors approved the addition during its December meeting, citing the growing popularity of female wrestling at local high schools.
The team will host matches in the Carter Center and will practice in the new Woodlyn and Earl Kendrick indoor practice facility that opened earlier this year.
The team will start competing in 2026, and the university is currently accepting applications for a head coaching position.
