Athens, WV (WOAY) A new team is forming at Concord University.
The school’s Athletic Department has announced plans to add a women’s triathlon team.
In the official announcement, Concord says southern West Virginia’s mountainous terrain provides ideal training conditions.
Thanks to the generosity of Pipestem State Park, swim training will take place at the park’s adventure lake
Triathlons are made up of swimming, biking, and running events with race seasons running in the fall.
Races begin in late august and wrap up at the USA Triathlon National Championship in early November.
While women’s triathlon is not an NCAA Division II sport, Concord’s team will compete as a club program under USA Triathlon, joining 41 colleges nationwide that currently sponsor the sport.
The program is expected to start recruitment this spring, with its first competitive season scheduled for fall 2026.
