LEWISBURG, WV (WOAY)- “What we know is that an investment in youth is an investment in the community and an investment in the future,” said Brittany Brackenrich, Executive Director of CIS of Greenbrier County.
Communities in schools celebrated 20 years in Greenbrier schools. This program is a nationwide initiative to bring support to students on a one-on-one level.
“So our mission, in short, is to empower students to achieve what they achieve is based on their own individual attributes and their own goals,” explained Brackenrich. “It is not about asking them to reach a goal that we set for them, rather a goal that embodies what they envision as a successful future.”
Governor Jim Justice, First Lady Cathy Justice, and Baby Dog came to join in the celebration. They both spoke on the importance of this program in our state.
“We want the children of West Virginian, the students of West Virginia to be proud of themselves, to be proud of who you are. Be proud you’re from West Virginia,” said Cathy Justice, WV First Lady. “You can achieve anything in life. And that’s what we want to instill in every child in the state.”
The Justice family talked about how they are happy that it’s in all 55 counties of West Virginia. Cathy Justice was honored with an award for her support in this program as her primary initiative.
Communities in schools of Greenbrier County are grateful for the Justice’s support of them and the future.
