West Virginia (WOAY) West Virginians planning one last getaway for Labor Day weekend are joining travelers nationwide hitting the road, taking to the skies and heading to popular destinations.
AAA booking data shows Seattle, Orlando, Boston, Denver and New York are among the top domestic destinations, while Rome, Vancouver, London, Dublin and Paris top the international list.
Travelers are paying more this year for flights, hotels, tours and gas.
Roundtrip domestic airfare is averaging about $750 per ticket, 2% higher than last year.
Hotel bookings are up nine percent domestically.
AAA says gas prices are also higher.
As of August 24, the national average was $4.09 a gallon, compared to $3.19 on Labor Day weekend last year.
In West Virginia, the average was $3.95, compared to $3.01 last Labor Day.
AAA recommends checking your tires, battery and fluids before hitting the road and packing an emergency kit with water, snacks, first-aid supplies, a flashlight and jumper cables.
