Tazewell, VA (WOAY)- The Tazewell County Board of Supervisors has unanimously accepted the resignation of County Attorney Chase D. Collins.
His resignation is effective July 7th.
Collins joined the County Attorney’s Office as an intern in 2012.
He later served as Assistant County Attorney, then Interim in 2019, before being officially appointed in 2020.
In his statement, Collins said the position was never his to own, but belonged to the citizens of Tazewell County.
Furthermore, he states that although circumstances don’t allow for a meaningful path forward, he’ll carry great memories and continue serving the community in the private sector.
During his tenure, Collins helped recover $3 million in delinquent real estate taxes.
Vice Chairman Kyle Cruey thanked Collins for his service, and County Administrator C. Eric Young, who had once hired Collins as an intern, said he was sad to see him go but wished him the best.
Young will step in as Interim County Attorney starting July 8, while the Board considers contracting legal services until a permanent replacement is named.
