Oak Hill Sanitary Board to conduct smoke testing of sanitary and storm sewer systems around Greentown Loop Road area

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) The Oak Hill Sanitary Board will soon conduct smoke testing of the area’s sanitary and storm sewer systems around Greentown Loop Road.

The testing identifies issues such as leaking sewers, faulty connections, missing manholes, and areas where stormwater may be entering the sanitary sewer system.

Residents may see smoke coming from sewer vents during the testing.

Officials say the smoke is non-toxic, non-staining, and does not create a fire hazard.

If smoke enters your home through a faulty sewer connection, residents are asked not to be alarmed.

Before testing begins, residents should pour water down all drains in their homes or buildings to make sure sewer traps are full.

Questions can be directed to the Oak Hill Sanitary Board at 304-469-9541, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
