Byrd White says Slab Fork to Mullens section of Coalfields Expressway should be completed by end of August

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce hosted a tele-town hall on Wednesday.

This installment featured West Virginia Secretary of Transportation Byrd White who updated the public on road projects including the Coalfields Expressway.

Byrd says the Slab Fork to Mullens section should be complete by the end of August.

The next section from Mullens to Welch still has environmental hoops to jump through before work on that section can begin.

“Once we start that project, we should be continuously working on the Coalfields Expressway until we finish it,” White said. “Every section will either be under construction or design and it ought to be working all the way to Virginia,”

The goal of the expressway is to connect I-77 /I-64 in Beckley to US 23 in Slate, Virginia.
