West Virginia (WOAY)- The West Virginia Department of Health is alerting parents and caregivers about a baby formula recall.
The department announces that Byheart has voluntarily recalled certain lots of its powdered infant formula following a multistate outbreak of infant botulism.
To date, 13 cases have been reported across 10 states.
No confirmed cases have been identified in West Virginia, but the Department of Health is actively monitoring reports statewide.
The voluntary recall applies to two batches of ByHeart infant formula:
- Batch Code: 251261P2, Use by: 01 Dec 2026
- Batch Code: 251131P2, Use by: 01 Dec 2026
- UPC: 5004496800
Infant botulism is a rare but serious illness caused by Clostridium botulinum spores.
Symptoms may include constipation, poor feeding, a weak cry, droopy eyelids, and muscle weakness.
Parents should seek medical care immediately if an infant shows any signs of illness.
The company says it will continue working to ensure safety and transparency in the future.
Consumers can find information on affected lots and disposal instructions on the FDA recall webpage.
