Bluefield College moves football season to spring

WOAY – Bluefield College announced Tuesday that the Rams’ 2020 football season will be moved to the spring.

This was made following recommendations from two Mid-South Conference football division administrative councils, and a vote from school presidents. Bluefield College is part of the Appalachian Division; both that division and the Bluegrass Division voted to move football to the spring.

The Sun Division, however, has plans to play a fall football schedule starting September 12.

“We will make the most of this time to help our students focus on their academics, because they are first and foremost student-athletes,” says Director of Athletics Tonia Walker. “Coaches will continue to work with student-athletes in preparation for the season through rigorous strength training, conditioning, and dedicated work on team unity.”

Only Rams football will be moved to the spring; as of Tuesday, men’s and women’s soccer, cross country, golf, and tennis, are still scheduled to begin their seasons September 12. Bluefield College begins classes on August 19, both on-campus and online.
