Award-Winning Journalist Roland Martin to headline Charleston’s Juneteenth celebration

Charleston, WV (WOAY)- Charleston is bringing national attention to West Virginia with this year’s Juneteenth celebration.

Award-winning journalist and political commentator Roland Martin will headline this year’s festivities.

Martin will take the stage for a special Fireside Chat on Thursday, June 19th at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Coliseum Little Theater.

The event is free and open to the public; however, registration is required.

The celebration continues Friday, June 20, with a Juneteenth Parade starting at 11:30 a.m.

The parade begins at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, followed by a lively Community Festival at Slack Plaza, featuring music, food, and local vendors. 

The Charleston Juneteenth Committee says this two-day event honors Black freedom, culture, and resilience, shedding light on West Virginia’s unique place in Appalachian history.
