West Virginia (WOAY) A dire warning to parents after an infant botulism outbreak, health officials believe, is tied to baby formula.
Formula maker Nara Organics says it’s voluntarily recalling all of its infant formula over the potential risk of bacterial contamination amid a multi-state outbreak.
The CDC says three babies across three states – California, Pennsylvania, and Washington – were hospitalized and treated after consuming the formula, which is sold at Target.
Infant botulism is a rare but serious illness caused by ingestion of bacterial spores.
The symptoms can take several weeks to develop. Health officials are warning parents to be on the lookout for constipation, vomiting, diarrhea, poor feeding, loss of head control, and difficulty swallowing.
