WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Another foggy morning is upon us in southern West Virginia. While the Greenbrier Valley has remained within dense fog since early this morning, the fog has spread out across the region just recently. Fog will dissipate around 10 AM for most, revealing partly sunny skies. After the fog leaves our area, showers will grow from isolated to scattered this afternoon and evening. While there is no major disturbance within the region currently, these chances will hang on for the near future. Thunderstorms will develop again, bringing similar conditions to yesterday. Remember, when thunder roars, get indoors.
The main concern will be localized flooding this afternoon and evening. There is still plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, which will lead to some downpours. As a result, vulnerable areas and those hit with multiple bouts of heavy rain may see flooding issues. A couple of these storms may become gusty, but they should stay sub-severe through the day. Like yesterday, any severe weather will be to our northeast. These showers and storms will eventually fade after sunset, but will return this weekend. This weekend will be a bit of a mixed bag, but will start with rainier weather on Saturday. With no major disturbance coming in, the pattern of scattered showers and storms continues. The most activity will occur in the afternoon and early evening, but a few stray storms are possible tomorrow morning. Flooding issues are the main concern due to persistent rain and saturated soil, just like the last couple of days. A gusty storm or two is possible, but will stay sub-severe even in the afternoon. While an umbrella or rain jacket will keep you dry, this would be a better day to stay inside and enjoy some relaxation if possible.
Conditions will get notably better on Sunday as a high-pressure system drops into the region. The chance of a few stray showers will linger, but these will be few and far between compared to today and Saturday. It will be a better day to head outside and enjoy some sunshine, but an umbrella or rain jacket will be helpful. Always remember to get indoors if you hear thunder, even if it is not raining. The best chance for rain on Sunday is in the morning before the high pressure settles and brings some stability to the region. As we move into the next week, rain chances remain on the low end for Monday. High pressure will eventually slink away Monday night, but will keep things to a minimum for the first day of the new work week. However, the absence of high pressure and the potential for a new system pushing in from Canada will result in a few more days of heightened rain chances during the middle of next week. There is plenty of uncertainty with this front, but it could bring numerous showers and thunderstorms if it manages to push through Canada.
