Hot today, stormy tomorrow

Tomorrow will be a similar setup to today, with highs once again rising into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Later in the day, showers and storms will begin to pop up as a front will approach from the north. This front has already produced some very rough weather over western New York and western Pennsylvania. Some of these will be on the strong side, with damaging winds being the main threat. As for timing of the storms, it looks like it will primarily be an evening threat. We’ll be tracking the storms as the day goes on. It will likely affect some of the high school football games, since any storm that pops up will have lightning with it. The entire area sees a chance for rain, but it will be scattered.

Of course, there will also be plenty of moisture for the storms to work with, so flooding is also a possibility. Any flooding will be localized and confined to areas underneath the storms that pop up.

With the possibility for severe weather, both the Storm Prediction Center and Weather Prediction Center have placed parts of the area in the Level 2 out of 5 (SPC) and Level 1 out of 4 (WPC) outlooks from Friday into Saturday.

The weekend forecast will also contain a chance for showers and storms, but the intensity of the storms will be lower than what we’re expecting on Friday. There will still be a chance for severe storms on Saturday, but it will mainly be to the south of the area. By Sunday, the rain will be lighter and more scattered. The front does have some cooler air behind it, something that’s not always the case with fronts this time of the year, but it will take a day or two before it starts to filter into the region. Starting on Sunday, highs will be in the lower 80s and lows in the lower 60s. Weather-wise, we’ll see a nice Labor Day and beyond, with drier, cooler weather sticking around through Wednesday before more showers move into the region on Thursday.
