It’s been a fairly nice day across parts of southern West Virginia. We have some rain currently in parts of Tazewell, McDowell, Wyoming and Mercer Counties. That rainy activity is starting to spread north as the night progresses, and we could see some accumulating rainfall spread into the work week.
It does appear we could see a brief break in the rain on Tuesday, after more rain comes through Wednesday into Thursday. Most areas should stay hovering around an inch of much needed rain, that could see our drought continue to improve. Rain chances will occur Monday-Friday, but again… most likely on Wednesday and Thursday.
Our 7 day shows that bigger chances of rain occurring mid-week before a little dry up on Saturday as another system approaches from the west. This new system looks to bring another chance of rain as we head into Sunday. We will keep you updated on this through the week!

Now, I can’t make a post without mentioning the situation unfolding right now across the Caribbean. Hurricane Melissa, as of this post is currently a Category 4 Hurricane with winds of 145 MPH. A quick south-westerly jog looks to be have been finished and it’s moving to the west once again.
The low pressure over the southeastern USA Monday into Tuesday will take grab Melissa and bring it northward pretty rapidly. It’s with this turn, that it’s supposed to make landfall in southwest Jamaica with potential Category 5 intensity. The areas just east of where the landfall zone happens to be, will receive the worst of the storm surge as ocean water is pushed north in that area. On top of the wind and storm surge, some mountainous parts of Jamaica could pick up nearly 3 feet of rainfall, leading to flash flooding and landslides.
Melissa will then move over Jamaica, into southeastern Cuba, before turning more northeast and heading toward Bermuda. The only impact to the USA that Melissa might have is bringing some bigger waves to the east coast. However, for those from Jamaica to Cuba and parts of Hispaniola, the situation is worth watching very closely.
