A little warmer now, much colder later

It has been a fairly nice day around the region today, with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures have wound up in the mid-50s, a degree or two below the normal, but a few degrees warmer than yesterday.
Tonight, temperatures will fall off quickly after sunset, but with a southwesterly flow, temperatures will stay steady overnight, with lows winding up in the upper 30s and lower 40s, also a couple of degrees warmer than they were this morning.
Tomorrow will be the nicest day that we’ve seen in a while in terms of the temperatures. We’ll wind up in the mid-60s in most areas. If there’s a downside to the weather tomorrow, it’s that we’ll see the winds pick up as the day goes on. We have a Wind Advisory in effect for Pocahontas County from tomorrow afternoon through early Thursday morning. Winds could gust to 50 mph at times. Eventually, the front pushes through and drives the temperatures back into the mid-30s for lows and will only top out in the mid-50s on Thursday.
The last day of the work week will feature very unsettled weather. A front will approach the area from the northwest.
The question is: when does it arrive? For now, it appears that there will be some scattered showers ahead of the front, with the best chance for rain occurring Friday night and Saturday morning. We’re hoping to keep the football games dry but having a rain jacket with you if you’re heading out to the games would be a good idea.
The weekend will be similarly active as a second system quickly on the heels of the first brings additional precipitation chances on Sunday.
It will start as rain, but as cold air invades the region from the north, the rain will change over to snow.
The chance for snow will last through Monday before tapering off in all areas outside of the high elevation spots.
The snow may go away, but the cold air will stick around. Highs will be in the upper 30s for several days running.
Beyond the extended forecast, it appears that it will warm up towards the middle of November, so warm-weather lovers will get their wish after showing a little patience.
