West Virginia (WOAY) Wednesday, October 7, is Walk and Roll to School Day across West Virginia.
The Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) is partnering with schools, law enforcement, and community leaders to promote safe walking and biking to school.
The initiative is part of National Pedestrian Safety Month and encourages students and families to practice safe, active transportation.
Safety officials remind students to wear bright or reflective clothing, use crosswalks, stay alert, and wear properly fitted helmets when biking.
Drivers are also being urged to slow down in school zones, stop for school buses, and yield to pedestrians.
