Appalachian based film “Dark Hollow” to screen at Marquee Cinemas in Beckley on October 17

Beckley, WV (WOAY) An Appalachian monster movie filmed partly underground in Beckley will come to the big screen later this month. 

“Dark Hollow” will screen at Marquee Cinemas in Beckley on October 17 at 7:00 p.m. 

The independent film follows a young mother who must hunt down a nightmarish creature that emerges from the depths of an Appalachian coal mine. 

The film was shot in West Virginia, using the state’s mountain and mining landscapes to help tell a story rooted in the region. 

Writer and director Daniel Byers has Appalachian roots, growing up around the Spruce Knob area. 

The film’s Beckley screening gives local audiences a chance to see an independent Appalachian story on the big screen.
