Fayetteville to unveil first three plaques in new historic project on October 9

Fayetteville, WV (WOAY) Fayetteville is honoring three people who helped shape the community.

The city will unveil the first three plaques in a new historic project this Friday, October 9, at 4:30 p.m.

The event will begin at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building on West Maple Avenue, where a plaque will honor musician Charlie McCoy.

The group will then walk to Maple Avenue and Court Street to honor police chief Tunney Hunsaker.

The final stop will be near Wisteria Gifts on South Court Street, where the city will honor Thomas Sweeney, Fayetteville’s first black attorney and a longtime supporter of education.

The public is invited to join the walk, hear their stories, and celebrate Fayetteville’s history.

Refreshments will follow at the Fayetteville Welcome Center.
