Dry and Comfortable Pattern Continues

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Patchy fog is lingering across the region, causing visibility issues for the morning commute. Temperatures have fallen off a cliff compared to yesterday as most communities are in the upper 30s and lower 40s. A Frost Advisory is in effect for Pocahontas County until 9 AM this morning, but frost is also a possibility in other higher elevation areas. Fog will dissipate later this morning as the sun rises and burns it off. You will want a warmer jacket as you head out this morning.

Conditions will improve nicely this afternoon. Skies remain mostly sunny and temperatures rise into the upper 60s. We will be a bit warmer than yesterday, which is good news. If you do not have any plans today, it will be a great day to enjoy the outdoors. You will also be able to shed any warmer layers later in the day. Temperatures will dip into the 40s overnight, but it should remain a little warmer than this morning. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:

High pressure will remain close to our region until Saturday. This extended pattern will lead to dry conditions and slightly warmer temperatures. Most areas will reach the low 70s tomorrow afternoon, and highs will stay in that range through Saturday. Morning lows will become a bit more variable, but most areas remain brisk for the week. Fire risk will be elevated for the second half of the week due to the dry and warm conditions. If you need to burn yard scraps or plan to have a bonfire, please follow the statewide burn ban. I would recommend not burning at all until rain returns.

Speaking of rain, we are expecting a pattern change during the weekend. High pressure will leave the region on Saturday, leaving us vulnerable for the first time since last week. A disturbance from the Gulf will move northeast into the region, dropping rain on us Sunday and Monday of next week. This disturbance has a high chance of becoming a tropical system this week, but should weaken over land before scraping by our area. We will continue to track this system in the Gulf as it develops and eventually reaches land. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
