Foggy Commute; Great Conditions Ahead

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Dense fog has been developing since last night and will continue to affecting the morning commute. Drive carefully and use your low beams if you encounter dense fog on the roadways. Skies remain partly sunny, allowing the fog to dissipate later this morning. Morning temperatures remain in the upper 40s and 50s, but conditions will get better as the day continues.

High pressure pushes into the eastern portion of the country, which will result in drier weather. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-60s across the region. No rain is expected in our area, leading to a great day to get outside and enjoy the fall weather. This is just the beginning of the dry streak for our area. This is great news after a gloomy, rainy weekend. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:

The high-pressure system that is pushing into our region will remain in our area for the first half of the week. Mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures are expected. Mornings will be brisk, especially tomorrow and Wednesday, so make sure you have a warmer jacket ready for the week. Afternoon highs will climb into the low 70s by Wednesday and will stay put for the rest of the week.

Conditions will be very similar in the second half of the work week as high pressure continues to influence our weather. Temperatures remain around the same between Wednesday and Saturday. Mostly sunny skies last through the first half of the weekend, which is a great sign for any and all outdoor activities this week. An extended period of dry weather in the fall brings an increased fire risk, especially later this week. Please be mindful if you decide to burn, but I would recommend holding off on any burning until rain returns.

High pressure slinks away from the region on Saturday, leaving our area open to a pattern change for the first time in a week. Cloud cover is likely to increase Saturday night, which will be the precursor to the return of rainy activity. There is a lot of uncertainty with this potential system, but models are agreeing on some sort of disturbance Sunday into Monday of next week.

The National Hurricane Center has placed a 70% chance of a tropical disturbance forming off the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico over the next 5 days. Whether this system ends up forming or not, rain is likely to come from the southeast. This does not mean we will experience a tropical storm, but simply pointing out where the next system may originate from. We will continue to monitor the potential for our next rainfall as the week goes on.
