Overall it was a pretty nice Sunday across Southern West Virginia, we did have some shower activity earlier, but going into Monday we will remain mostly dry. There is a chance for a couple stray very light showers during the day on Monday, but overall that risk remains too low to warrant a rain percentage. We will continue the dry pattern Tuesday and Wednesday before more rain looks possible later in the day on Thursday and again on Friday. There is a front in play with the rain on Friday and the timing and location of that front will be key in when exactly our rain will fall. The European model is currently trending to early Friday afternoon for the bulk of the rain, which for football games in the evening is great. However, the potential that it shifts back to Friday evening is possible still, so that’s something we’re going to have to track over the next few days.
Taking a look at the futurecast rainfall from the European, it’s not really showing much. Most people are sitting around a quarter of an inch over the next 7 days, but there could be isolated pockets that get more than that depending on where the bulk of the rain falls. It’s still not looking like a washout any day this week. Just keep in mind the rain potential on Friday if you’re going out under the lights of football fields and don’t forget to bring umbrella’s and rain gear just in case!
When we look at the full 7 day forecast there’s really just one word that comes to mind… hot… it will be very hot in places. Temperatures will soar into the upper 80’s and low 90’s for nearly everyone and temperatures could even approach the mid 90’s in the lower elevations. Stay alert for the potential for heat alerts coming out for some people over the next couple of days. The rain chances Thursday and Friday will start to usher in some relief as temperatures cool back towards average heading into next weekend. So, at least this heat won’t last all that long.
