Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – Governor Patrick Morrisey ceremoniously signed two bills into law today that aim to boost energy production and create a framework to regulate critical mineral extraction.
House Bill 5381 puts West Virginia’s mission to triple its energy output into law by prioritizing energy production and focusing on baseload power. It also aims to protect the electrical grid from cyber attacks and federal overreach.
Senate Bill 648 creates a statewide regulatory framework for the extraction of critical minerals. Extraction is already being done at acid mine drainage sites in northern counties in West Virginia
