Showers/fog tonight, storms possible tomorrow

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – A few showers are still making their way through the area this evening. While the showers should end later tonight, there is a chance for some patchy fog later tonight, as there is plenty of moisture, and temperatures and dewpoints should be very close to or right on top of each other. There could be some low visibility during the morning commute. Lows tonight will be in the middle 40s.

Tomorrow will be an active day, with even warmer temperatures. Highs will be in the lower 60s as a warm front moves through the area. The downside of the warm front is that the warm air will help to destabilize the atmosphere, and once the showers arrive, they’ll be enhanced a bit, and there could be some thunder associated with the activity. For the moment, the Storm Prediction Center has kept us out of the severe weather risk areas, but this could change by tomorrow.
If there are any severe storms, damaging winds are far and away the main threat. Highs will wind up in the lower 60s for most, with some 50s in the eastern and northeastern areas. The chance for thunder – and severe storms – lasts into the overnight Thursday and into Friday.
After some early rain, skies do clear out a bit as the afternoon goes on Friday. We’ll begin to feel the influence of cooler air on Friday, as temperatures will be around 10 degrees cooler than they’ll be tomorrow, although they’ll still be in the lower 50s. The real cold air arrives over the weekend, as we’ll be tracking a possible coastal low off the North Carolina coast. The low will pull down some much colder air from Canada and, with a northwesterly flow, will produce some lake-effect snow.
Accumulations are possible as the lake-effect regime continues through Monday before ending. As we end the forecast, temperatures will rebound nicely, making this cold snap a brief one. After topping out in the upper 20s on Monday, we’ll see middle 30s on Tuesday and the lower 40s on Wednesday.
