It is another warm afternoon around the region, as temperatures are again in the middle to upper 80s. When you factor in the humidity, it feels even warmer than those already lofty temperatures would suggest.

The only places that are cooler are those that wind up underneath the scattered storms that have popped up in various places around the region. Earlier this afternoon, that was the southwest portion of the state and there it was about 10 degrees cooler than it was elsewhere.

As we go through the rest of the day, the storms will fall in most areas, even if only briefly. Rain totals with the storms will not be heavy enough to trigger any flooding issues outside of ponding of water on the roads and standing water in the low-lying spots.

The chances for showers and storms stick with us for the rest of the week as the front that is triggering today’s storms will become stationary, giving us several days with elevated rain chances.

Overall rain totals for the next few days should again be too low to cause any significant flooding issues. All of the rivers, creeks, and streams that the River Forecast Centers monitor in our area are in good shape and can take some rain.
As for the possibility that any of the storms that we see will be severe, the Storm Prediction Center does have parts of the Greenbrier Valley in the Marginal Category for severe storms from Wednesday into Thursday. Outside of that, some of the storms that form over the region over the next several days could be on the strong side, but the chances for that are small. Any storm that forms and is strong will have gusty winds attached.
