LEWISBURG, WV (WOAY) – The Schoolhouse for the Excellency of Knowledge Micro School will officially open this coming school year. This is the first faith-based micro school in the region.
You may be asking, What is a micro school? Think of it as a modern-day one-room schoolhouse, where kids of various ages and knowledge levels learn together.
By doing this, the school will be able to teach kids on a more personal level. For example, there can be a kindergartener whose reading skills are at the appropriate age level but they might be doing math at a 5th-grade level with ease.
Since this is not a public school, learning can be very personalized and the way that suits the child best.
“Most generally, that’s going to be hands-on. So they’ll all have their own projects, their own activities that they’re doing hands-on while they’re also learning,” explained Trish Defibaugh, the founder of the Schoolhouse for the Excellency of Knowledge. “For instance, the disc golf curriculum covers math and science. So they’re out there playing and having a great time and learning about math and science without even knowing it. It’s not a drill, and remember the type thing, it’s actually doing it to learn.”
If you wish to enroll your child, you can call them or visit their Facebook page listed below for an application.
