Greenbrier Republican Executive Committee announces John “The Appalachian” Wyatt has passed away following a short illness

Rainelle, WV (WOAY) A member of our community and one of our regular community forum guests has passed away.

The Greenbrier Republican Executive Committee announces that John Wyatt passed away following a short illness.

Famously known as The Appalachian, he regularly joined us on community forums to share his vast knowledge of Appalachian lore and music history.

As a singer, songwriter, and musician, we could always count on him to bring his guitar and grace us with songs based on our Appalachian heritage.

Wyatt was known throughout the community as a pastor, folk singer, and public servant.

He represented Western Greenbrier on the executive committee for eight years and also served on the Rainelle City Council.

Those who worked with him say he cared deeply about the Rainelle community and the Meadow River Valley, and spent much of his time ministering to people affected by the region’s drug crisis.

Friends and colleagues say his faith, music, and dedication to the community will be remembered for years to come.
