Pleasant Mother’s Day turns into a rainy work week

Good afternoon all, and Happy Mother’s Day! We’re enjoying a gorgeous end to the weekend here in southern West Virginia, but the dry weather won’t be sticking around for long. A rainy stretch is setting up, with at least three consecutive days of showers and storms expected to kick off the workweek.

Monday through Wednesday will bring daily rain chances to the region, with Monday likely being the wettest of the bunch. While most of the rainfall will be beneficial, there is a limited risk of localized flooding, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone areas. Streams and creeks may rise quickly in spots, so anyone living near flood-sensitive locations should plan ahead and stay weather-aware.

Tuesday is expected to remain soggy, with scattered showers likely through much of the day. Rainfall may ease up a bit by Wednesday, though showers will still be possible. At this time, no severe storms are anticipated, but it’s always wise to use caution when roads are wet or visibility is reduced.

The only day that currently looks “dry” this week is Thursday, offering a brief break from the wet pattern. However, even looking ahead to next weekend, rain chances are already trending higher once again.

Be sure to keep the umbrella close and stay tuned to WOAY for the latest updates as we move through a wet and active weather week. Stay safe!
