Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) Kids and Car Safety wants to remind drivers everywhere that it’s never safe to leave children or pets alone in the car, even for a short time.
According to Kids and Car Safety, an average of 40 children in the US die every year due to being left in a hot car. Their experts also say that even at 70 degrees outside, the temperature inside vehicles can reach 100 degrees in only 30 minutes, and children overheat 3-5 times faster than adults.
Many cars made in the past few years have a feature called an end-of-trip reminder: a message on the dashboard to check the back seat. With or without this feature, drivers with children should always remember to check before leaving the vehicle.
If you see a child alone in a car, remember to call 9-1-1 and get them out of the car by any means and into a cooler environment, especially if they show signs of heatstroke.
