WVU Medicine’s J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital opens Lung Nodule Clinic to speed up diagnosis and provide early treatment for patients

Morgantown, WV (WOAY) Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, often because it is diagnosed too late.

To help improve early detection, WVU Medicine’s J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital has opened a new Lung Nodule Clinic designed to speed up diagnosis and treatment for patients with suspicious lung nodules or masses.

Doctors say traditional referral processes can delay care by several months, allowing cancer to progress to more advanced stages.

The clinic streamlines evaluations and biopsies, helping patients receive answers sooner.

The clinic uses robotic navigational bronchoscopy technology, which creates a three-dimensional map of a patient’s airways and allows physicians to reach smaller nodules deeper within the lungs.

Doctors say the minimally invasive procedure can improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce complications, and help identify lung cancer at earlier stages when treatment is most effective.

The Lung Nodule Clinic is staffed by four board-certified pulmonologists and sees patients by referral every Friday at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
