WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital performs region’s first surgical insertion of a cardioverter defibrillator

Mercer County, WV (WOAY) – WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital has earned a major milestone in cardiac care.

They performed the region’s first surgical insertion of a cardioverter defibrillator in a patient. This device is a small battery-powered device that is placed in the chest to monitor and correct dangerous heart rhythms.

Before this, patients who needed this care would have to travel over 90 miles to have them implanted and have service checks.

Doctor Kiran Kanjerla joined PCH back in May as a board-certified cardiologist and electrophysiologist. They treat a myriad of different heart conditions, including defibrillator surgery and service checks.
