WV (WOAY) – The WVU Cancer Institute’s Lung Cancer Screening (LUCAS) Mobile Lung Cancer Screening Unit will visit Monroe and Greenbrier Counties next month, offering low-dose computed tomography scans.
The unit will be at the Alderson Medical Center on Wednesday, July 23, and then at Rainelle Medical Center on Thursday, July 24.
The mobile unit will be on the scene from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
LUCAS lung cancer screenings are billed to private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare.
However, uninsured patients living in West Virginia who meet screening criteria can also receive screening through grant funding and donations.
Patients must have a physician’s order and prior authorization from their insurance provider to undergo screening.
Appointments must be scheduled at least 14 days in advance to allow sufficient time for insurance pre-authorization.
In West Virginia, more people die of lung cancer than colorectal, prostate, and breast cancer combined.
LUCAS travels to the 42 counties in the state that lack easy access to lung cancer screening.
Call (304) 445-3140 to schedule an appointment in Alderson.
Call (304) 436-6188 ext: 1034 for an appointment in Rainelle.
