Charleston, WV (WOAY) West Virginia transportation officials are addressing a series of recent crashes near the Interstate 77 and Interstate 64 split in Charleston.
State transportation Secretary Stephen Todd Rumbaugh says the Division of Highways is concerned about crashes in the area that have resulted in vehicles leaving the interstate, including a deadly crash Friday.
WVDOH engineers were already working on a project to install high-friction surface treatment on several elevated portions of the interstate.
Officials expect that treatment to be installed later this fall.
The Division of Highways is also working with the Charleston Police Department to monitor crashes and determine whether additional safety measures are needed.
Rumbaugh is reminding drivers to follow posted speed limits, wear their seat belts, and never drive impaired or distracted.
He says preventing roadway tragedies requires everyone to do their part.
