WVDNR accepting applications for fall waterfowl hunt

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) is giving hunters an opportunity to participate in a fall bird hunt.

According to a media release, hunters have until midnight on August 15, 2025, to apply for a controlled waterfowl hunt at the McClintic Wildlife Management Area near Point Pleasant in Mason County.

The hunt will take place on October 4-12 during the first segment of West Virginia’s waterfowl season. Hunters will be selected randomly by a lottery system and assigned a hunting day as well as a designated area. There is no fee to participate.

“Controlled hunts like this are an important part of our mission to manage wildlife resources responsibly, while also giving hunters access to high-quality hunting experiences,” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion.

Officials with the WVDNR will notify successful applicants by mail by the second week of September.

If you are lucky enough to be selected, you may also bring one guest. Hunters are required to report to the McClintic WMA office before 6 a.m. on their assigned hunting day. A shooting station will also be available for hunters with disabilities.

If you are not selected for one of the spots you may still have an opportunity to participate in the hunt. Hunters not selected in the drawing may sign in at the WMA office the morning of each hunt day to fill any unclaimed shooting stations.

For information more information about waterfowl hunting and season dates, consult the 2025-2026 Migratory Bird Regulations, which will be available at all WVDNR offices and online at WVdnr.gov by the end of August.
