Wintry Weather to Start; Spring Approaching Fast

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Although it is meteorological spring, winter is not quite done with us. Today’s system is bringing rain, snow, and ice into the region. The eastern half of the region will gain most of the wintry weather, but roads across the region could have a glaze of ice this morning. Snow and ice will switch to rain in the central countries and the southern coalfields, but may persist in the eastern counties until tomorrow morning. Due to the winter conditions, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for western Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties until tomorrow morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect for Fayette, eastern Greenbrier, mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, and Summers counties until tomorrow morning. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

While the wintry weather moves on tomorrow morning, the next system will move in quickly. However, the line of showers sets up in the norther half of the state, leaving us with only scattered showers for the week. While heavier rain falls towards Morgantown and Clarksburg, we’ll see lighter showers on the southern end of this line. With that being said, these showers will linger around from Tuesday until Friday, making for a gloomy and damp week in our region. Showers will be in and out of the region, but you will want an umbrella or rain jacket for most of the week.

If you are worried about extended winter weather, you will be glad to hear that temperatures will be rising through the week. The region will likely break the 70-degree mark by Wednesday! Along with eliminating further winter weather chances, these temperatures will help get rid of any lingering ice and snow from today.

The line of showers finally starts to break Friday afternoon, giving us a brief break from the rain. However, more rain is coming into the region this weekend. A frontal system will form and start moving through the Midwest on Saturday, arriving into the region Saturday night or Sunday morning. While timing is still fluctuating from model to model, we are looking at showers and isolated thunderstorms bringing widespread rain. All in all, it will be an active weather week.
