WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This past weekend was dry, which was great for outdoor plans but not so much for gardeners and farmers. This morning will stay the same, so any morning plans should be off without any concerns. However, there is a chance for an isolated shower or two this afternoon. While the majority of the region will likely stay dry, a stray shower or two cannot be ruled out. Chances for rain start in the evening, dissipating in the wee hours of the night. Nothing strong is expected, but there is a chance for some decent rainfall, mainly in the southwestern chunk of the viewing area. An umbrella may come in handy this evening. Tomorrow is when we will finally get some good shots of rain in our region. The frontal system currently passing through the Midwest will slowly approach our region, bringing widespread rain to the forecast during the afternoon. Showers will be broken up, but the vast majority of the region is likely to receive measurable rainfall. As the front attempts to push through in the afternoon, there is a chance for a stronger storm or two. This is dependent on how much sunshine we get, among other things. Even with that chance, any storms should not reach severe criteria. Storm strength will weaken after sunset, and rainfall will continue through the overnight hours.
A high-pressure center is currently parked along the east coast and is trending to stick around through Wednesday. This setup will keep the frontal system from fully pushing through Tuesday night. As a result, we will have another day of needed rain before the front passes through late Wednesday. With rain sticking around overnight and Wednesday morning, storm strength will be limited through the day. With drought still affecting our viewing area, any rain is welcome. Water issues may arise in vulnerable spots, especially later this week.
Thursday retains a 50% chance of rain, but any remaining showers will be broken across the region. The chance of rain comes from the development of diurnal storms in the afternoon and evening. However, this is not the end of the active pattern. Another frontal system is trending to impact the region on Friday, ending the workweek with another chance of widespread rainfall. This front, not impeded by a high-pressure center this time around, will leave the region Saturday morning. As a result, rain chances will decrease through the weekend. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
