Wet today, strong storms possible tomorrow

Showers and storms are rolling through the area this afternoon as a disturbance in the middle levels of the atmosphere is pushing through the region.
Several locations have seen rain, and the evening commute is a bit slower due to some wet roads. While there hasn’t been any rain yet at the official reporting stations, some of the West Virginia DOT cameras have been showing some wet roads.
We’ve even heard some rumbles of thunder at our Oak Hill studios, and we’ve seen rain here as well. Additional showers and storms will make their way through over the next few hours, but any water issues should be confined to the usual problems that come with heavy rain in short time periods. After sunset, the showers should end, and the skies will clear a bit. Lows will again be in the mid-50s.
A much better chance for rain is in the forecast beginning tomorrow as the first of two fronts pushes into the region. The chance for rain is very high, and there is plenty of moisture for the storms to work with.
The main threat is again the typical standing water in low-lying spots and ponding water on the roads.
As for the chance for severe storms, the Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire state in the Marginal Risk category for severe storms, the lowest level. Any storms that do become severe will have strong winds attached, in addition to the heavy rain.
The storms will continue into Friday morning before ending. The good news is that the weather should be good for our Fabulous Football Friday games.

Temperature-wise, highs tomorrow will be held down a bit with the extra cloud cover and will top out in the upper 60s and lower 70s. After the first front is gone, it actually warms up as the winds turn around to the southwest. Highs will rise into the upper 70s, and there will be a strong breeze. Lows Friday night will be near 60 degrees.
This weekend features another front that will make its way through the region, triggering another round of showers and storms on Saturday. Rain chances and rain totals will not be as high as they will be tomorrow, but when added to the rain that we’re expecting tomorrow, it could cause some issues for travelers, including those who are going to see WVU and Marshall play their football games.
After the next front pushes through, temperatures will finally cool down, with highs in the upper 60s on Sunday afternoon and lows in the upper 40s on Monday morning. The second half of the weekend will feature plenty of sun.
The end of the extended forecast is looking good, with mostly sunny skies as high pressure takes over the weather. Temperatures will warm up a bit as well.
