West Virginia’s infrastructure grade has improved but it is still rated extremely poorly

Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – West Virginia’s infrastructure grade has improved in this year’s report card issued by the American Society of Civil Engineers, but it is still rated extremely poorly.

The state received an overall grade of D+. Its highest graded category was C+ in the solid waste category, but its grade in categories like bridges, broadband, hazardous waste, and drinking water all ranked at D+ or lower.

The state received a D- in the schools and stormwater categories. The state’s roads received a C- grade.

The report cites the state’s shrinking population, falling revenues, and aging infrastructure as key contributors to the poor marks.

The report recommends sustained statewide investment.
