West Virginia State University honoring basketball pioneer Earl Lloyd with celebration on February 26

Institute, WV (WOAY) West Virginia State University is inviting the community to celebrate a true basketball pioneer.

The university will host an event today at 12:30 p.m. inside the Walker Convocation Center lobby, honoring the legacy of Earl Lloyd, a West Virginia State legend and the first African American to play in an NBA game.
On the anniversary of his passing, the university is reflecting on Lloyd’s lasting impact on WVSU, the NBA, and generations of student-athletes who followed in his footsteps.
