West Virginia State Police to conduct sobriety checkpoint in McDowell County on December 4

Welch, WV (WOAY)- The West Virginia State Police (WVSP) will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in McDowell County on Wednesday, December 4.  

The checkpoint will take place along U.S. Route 52 Coal Heritage road near the WVSP’s old Welch detachment at 850 Virginia Avenue from 6:00 pm to midnight. 

The purpose of the checkpoint is to deter impaired driving and educate the public about the dangers of operating a vehicle while under the influence.  

WVSP urges the public to assist them in preventing drunk driving by reporting intoxicated and drug-impaired drivers to local authorities.
