Charleston, WV (WOAY)The West Virginia Public Service Commission is moving forward with a plan to protect traditional landline phone service across the Mountain State.
The Commission has approved the terms of a $60 million escrow account that Frontier Communications must establish following Verizon’s acquisition of the company.
The money will be used to maintain and improve service for customers who still rely on copper landline, or “plain old telephone service.”
Commission Chairman Charlotte Lane says officials remain concerned about reliable service for many West Virginians.
Under Tuesday’s order, the Commission will have the final say on every project and funding request, and says it plans to review those requests as quickly as possible.
